7 Types of Events You Can Host in a CoWorking Space

BY ROXANA OLIVER ABOUT SEVEN TYPES OF EVENTS THAT CAN BE HOSTED IN A COWORKING SPACE

Oh, that co-working space. We seem to dislike it so much in the morning when we wake up, yet when we arrive there, everything just feels like home. Your working space, however, has so much potential and you should definitely try to research it a bit more. In order to be more motivated to work with the people you work with and actually enjoy your job, you need to get out of your comfort zone and organize something in your working space. Not only is it a great teambuilding activity, but organizing something fun and different can be a great motivation and a way not to end up in a rut. According to a survey conducted by Eventbrite, 69% of workers feel more motivated and connected to other people after various events hosted in their office. So, what are the things that you could organize in your office?

Pecha Kucha

Pecha Kucha is a great new thing that was devised in Tokyo in 2003 and it serves as a great way to learn something new about your colleagues or pitch a new idea. The only thing that Pecha Kucha requires is 20 photos per person and 20 seconds to present each picture or slide. It’s a super fun and fast way to learn new things about the people you work with, but it could also be a great brainstorming activity.

Fundraiser

Your co-working space doesn’t have to be a space only for you, as you can extend it and invite even more people in. The best possible way to do this would be to join a certain cause and organize a fundraiser. You can advertise both internally or externally and see how many people can join. Fundraisers are always much fun, first of all, because of their charitable nature and secondly, because they can bring so many different people together.

Weekly breakfasts

Many companies organize Martini Mondays or Casual Fridays, but there are not many of them who organize weekly morning breakfasts. This means that you will have to decide together what breakfast you would like to eat this week and organize a caterer or a restaurant that you like the most to bring the food to your working place. Make sure to have an easy-to-use espresso machine, though, as what is breakfast without the strongest cup of coffee you can make? This will definitely boost the morale in your own company as people like to mingle next to the breakfast buffet.

Craft show

Are you crafty or is there a craft you would like to teach your colleagues? You can learn something from every single person in your team, so organizing a day or two a week where you will all indulge in a craft show and learn something new really sounds fun. Moreover, your co-working space is a great venue for this because of its size – it would be so much easier to move around the conference room than your apartment, for example.

Fuckup Nights

We always celebrate our successes, but what about our failures? Isn’t it equally important to embrace them and learn something from our mistakes? The concept of Fuckup Nights was devised by Carlos Zimbron, and the general idea is that we should all share our failure stories and see what the things we could learn from them are. Not only is it extremely fun, but it can be quite healthy as well.

Startup Weekends

One of the most popular events at the moment is startup weekends. Having a topic for these is crucial, it’s what will set you apart from the rest of the competitors. What you can do is invite everyone from the industry, advertise the event through different platforms (such as Instagram or LinkedIn), and let everyone who’s interested in the topic come. It’s a great idea to advertise your company while doing something that’s very helpful to other people.

Game nights

Another extremely fun idea would be to blow off some steam once a month and organize a game night. There is a plethora of options and categories to choose from – general knowledge, geography, Game of Thrones quizzes (which could be a great idea now before the final season comes out). People love game nights so the turnout will definitely be good.

Don’t let 2019 pass without you organizing something interesting and fun in your co-working space. After all, there are so many options to choose from, it would be such a shame not to make the best out of it.
