My Best Travel Photos 2017 – Photo Parade For the Last 6 Months

Today, I have something different for you! Michael from Entdecke die Welt invited the blogger world to participate in a photo parade to show the best travel photos of certain categories. He is doing this for the 6th time already. But for me, this is the second time! And I’m really happy to be part of it! If you want to know more about the parade and understand German check out Michael’s post about it:

Photo Parade 2 2017 – Which ones were your best travel photos?

The 5 categories for the best photos in the last six months of 2017 are:

  • Landscape
  • Light
  • Black&White
  • Animals
  • Nature

But those 5 categories seamed to be to simple for Michael, so he suggested 5 more. I gladly accepted the challenge to find 10 photos – one for each category!

  • Closeup
  • Cityscape
  • Contrasts
  • Food
  • View

Since I have been working on my city guides a lot in the last months, I didn’t have a lot of time for blog posts. This is why most of the photos are from places that I didn’t write about. I still hope you’ll enjoy them! Here they are:

#1 Landscape

I took this photo in Taormina. The land in the back is the peninsula Italy while everything you see in the front is Sicily.

#2 Light

In this category, I have chosen one of my no 1 favorite pictures this year. The light show at Marina Bay Sands in my favorite city – Singapore – is impressive and deserves to be featured in this category.

#3 Black&White

This category was especially difficult for me because I usually don‘t really like black&white photography. In this one from Halong Bay, however, I find that the monochrome editing emphasizes the drama of the rough cliffs.

#4 Animals

Ok, I admit: I cheated a bit … To be honest, I did not take photos of animals in the second half of the year. The alternative was to choose a photo of the monkeys in Bali, but that was in the first half of the year, which would have been cheating as well. So I chose the elephants at Elephant Waterfall near Da Lat, Vietnam.

#5 Nature

I took this picture during my day trip to the Feldberg with Julia from Globusliebe. It was a cold but beautiful day. Check out my post about autumn in the Rhine Main Area.

#6 Close-up

Also a difficult category for me, as I normally don’t take close-ups. My specialty are rather wide landscape shots or impressive cityscape shots, which I try to capture with my wide-angle lens. But somehow, I took a close-up of this flower two weeks ago in Da Lat, Vietnam …

#7 Cityscape

For the cityscape, I wasn’t sure if I choose a shot from Frankfurt or from Singapore. In the end, I decided for a shot from my hometown Frankfurt. This view from the cathedral has literally taken my breath away! Read more about my favorite photo spots in the city on the Main!

#8 Contrasts

What brings more beautiful color contrasts than a sunrise or sunset? This is a sunrise in one of my favorite European cities: Budapest. After a night working without a break, I could not fall asleep and therefore took the camera and went outside: A great decision!

#9 Food

Food photography is not one of my strengths either. Fortunately, I sometimes take a few photos of my food for my City Guides and Insta Stories. Just like this shot of a Currywurst, which I made on the first evening after my return in summer from the trip to Asia.

Again, I had the choice between Frankfurt and Singapore. In the end, I opted for this wonderful sunset overlooking Marina Bay.

And my absolute favorites that do not fit into these categories?

#11 Reflection

In October, I briefly visited my second home, Sicily. In Cefalù, I was lucky enough to experience a breathtaking sunset. The reflection almost made me cry. It was so beautiful!

#12 Going round

Maybe this is my no. 1 favorite photo from the second half of this year. It’s so different, so simple and so beautiful. I could watch it for hours! I took it in the Basilica of Budapest during my stay with the A-ROSA in the Hungarian capital.

#13 At night in the streets

Another shot from Budapest. When I was waiting for a friend, I had nothing better to do, so I took out my camera and tried to take some long exposure shots.

These were my most beautiful pictures from the second half of 2017 in 13 categories.

Which one do you like best? I look forward to your comments!
